Jurisdiction at Sea

A comprehensive report on the applicable rules on the delimitation of maritime areas, which impact directly the placement of offshore energy generation and transport structures. Firslty, the overall system of maritime delimitation as it affects energy installations wil be reviewed, with aview to identify particular requirements and trends towards a possible checklist for delimitation. Then, the research will focous on the jurisdictional powers of the coastal State to authorize exploration for energy resources in zones within its competence with particular reference to its interface with marine scientific research.

Expected key results: An overview of the state of the art allocation of State power at sea

Deliverables:

1. A full report on maritime delimitation as related to offshore energy projects

2. A full report on the interface between energy projects and marine scientific research. The report explores the jurisdicitonal powers of the coastal State to authorize exploration for energy resources in zones within its competence with particular reference to its interface with marine scientific research.
